Who We Are

We are the first roof shingle recycling facility in Virginia! Our facility can process 500 tons of asphalt shingles and other materials a day, which translates into about 450 tons of coffee-like grinds. We accept tear-off roofing material [asphalt shingles and related items], pick out the paper, plastic, wood and metal and grind the remaining felt paper and shingles. Shingles are petroleum-based products and the materials used in their manufacture include fiberglass, cellulose, asphalt cement, a ceramic-coated natural rock called aggregate, and minerals that include limestone, dolomite and silica. We then recycle the shingles into coffee-like grinds and sell the final material to asphalt mixers as a supplement.

Our second recycled product is wood. As we began processing shingles, Tidewater Green identified large quantities of wood being thrown away!  Since our core mission has been to divert landfill-bound products and create renewable solutions, we felt this was unacceptable. Further investigation also revealed tons of wood from various industries were being land-filled everyday. Creosote pilings, stumps, dimensional lumber, pallets, packaging crates, etc. can all be recycled! We are focused on finding, and will continue to refine, the best processing equipment and the appropriate end-users to continue this valid recycling effort.

Since inception, Tidewater Green has diverted close to 50,000 tons of landfill-bound material! That is equivalent to 50,000 compact cars! This is a significant amount material and something we are very proud of. We are excited about the progress we have made and will continue to identify and develop new diversion markets.
